Once long, long ago, Chumantou, the Great Spirit, visited the Ojibwa tribe, who lived near the edge of the frozen lands. Chimantou warned them that a dangerous star was about to fall and urged them to hurry to the bogs to cover their bodies with mud. Most people did not recognize the Great Spirit, however, and made fun of Chimantou. “Do not listen. The man is just a crazy person,” they said laughing.” Cover ourselves with mud! Ha! They said as they went on their way and paid no more attention to the Great Spirit. Only a few hurried to the bog as Chumantou suggested....
