Rock Cut Caves

I'm continually fascinated by the ancient history of India. So much of it is hidden from the West and the sheer amount of temples and sculpture which are still standing after thousands of years is amazing. Here we have the Rock cut Caves in Khambhalida(Rajkot), dating from around 4th century A.D, display life size images of mythical characters Avalokiteshvara Padmapani and Avalokiteshvara Vajrapani at the cave entrance. Also the depiction of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara is the only known example within cave architecture. What's interesting is that in the 4th century, this wall was documented in local history which translate to a far earlier people having carved them.
